Greetings everyone, 聽 Please note the following COVID-19 update for January 25, 2021: PHO Vaccination Rollout Plan On January 22, 2021, BC鈥檚 Provincial Health Officer (PHO) provided an update on聽the province’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan. The plan has four phases and is focused first on protecting those most vulnerable to severe illness.聽Immunization for the general population is scheduled to take place from April to September 2021. During all phases we are all reminded to continue to: Follow Public Health Guidelines including wearing masks, washing your hands, and maintaining social distancing. Adhere to聽province-wide restrictions聽concerning visitors in private residences and allowable/prohibited events. Avoid non-essential travel. The BC Seniors Living Association (BCSLA) is calling on the province to ensure that聽COVID-19聽vaccines will be distributed in an equitable way, not only to seniors in assisted living and long-term care facilities but also to those in independent living. When the story of COVID-19 in B.C. in 2020 is told, the impact it鈥檚 had on seniors in long-term care facilities will be a defining part of the narrative. On March 10, Canada鈥檚 first recorded COVID-19 death was at the聽Lynn Valley Care Centre聽in North Vancouver. Since then, there have been more than 400 deaths from COVID-19 in care facilities in B.C., representing 71 per cent of the nearly 700 COVID deaths in B.C. EXTENSION OF PROVINCE-WIDE RESTRICTIONS On January 7, 2021 BC鈥檚 Provincial Health Officer (PHO) ordered an聽extension to existing province-wide restrictions聽to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. Specifically, the sections of the聽gatherings and events order聽concerning visitors in private residences and allowable/prohibited events (sections A, B and C) that were to expire on January 8th聽have been extended to February 5, 2021聽at midnight. All events and social gatherings are suspended to聽significantly reduce COVID-19 transmission related to聽social interactions. All non-essential travel should be avoided. This includes travel into and out of B.C. and between regions of the province. PHO UPDATES RE: VARSITY SPORT AND RETAIL OCCUPANCY LIMITS – Varsity sport On December 24, 2020 BC鈥檚 Public Health Officer (PHO) amended the聽Gatherings and Events Order聽to expand and clarify restrictions on sports and fitness activities. These changes include permitting varsity sports subject to conditions, such as allowing participants to train or practice only with their home institution, ensuring participants maintain three-metre physical distancing, and prohibiting spectators.
